Having moved back to Newfoundland in 1995 I began looking for work in my field of computers, however, there was not a lot of work at that time. I went back to school and received my MCSE, "Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer" but still could not find the right job for me. I decided at that point I would have to create my own work and started looking for businesses that I might get involved in. In my research, I discovered that a franchise health food store was for sale and to make a long story short, bought the franchise in Oct. '99. Most of my friends and especially family thought I was crazy but my instincts told me I was right. I always remember my first day, I worked 12 hours, on my feet all day for the first time in my life. I had never worked in sales before, and I had soooooo much to learn, but I knew when I went home totally exhausted that night I had made the right decision to buy the store & to stay here in Corner Brook. I have never regreted my decision. I was a Newfoundlander and really believed in Newfoundlanders, this was where I was meant to be. During the first two years, I was lucky because my sister had just retired as a registered nurse and had taught nursing here in Corner Brook. She was a great help and between the two of us, we did quite a lot of research on all the products in the store. Over time, I was able to cull the products I didn't care too much for and focused on top quality products. The first two years were a blur. As a single parent my days consisted of raising my 3 wonderful daughters, work and every spare moment, I was reading & learning. It's now 9 years later and it is amazing how my business has changed. People are more and more looking to preventive health care. We are also an aging community and people are looking to stay healthy as long as they can...it's all about quality of life. I now have satisfied customers all over Newfoundland and Labrador including Port Aux Basques, St. Anthony, Carbonear, Clarenville and St. John's, as well as in Fort McMurray, England, Scotland, and Switzerland. Today Whole Health is a well known family business in Corner Brook acknowledged for it's friendly staff, great quality products and low prices.
